The generalization of Newcomb's equation to incorporate parallel ion viscosity and an application to thin shell instabilities

C G Gimblett1988年Plasma Physics and Controlled FusionIF 2.2出版社

The marginal force balance of an ideally conducting plasma is investigated for the case of non-negligible parallel ion viscosity. This leads to a generalization of Newcomb's equation (1960). The new equation is used to investigate ideal thin shell modes in the presence of bulk plasma toroidal rotation, and it is found that while parallel ion viscosity has a stabilizing effect, it is insufficient to fully stabilize these modes.
