A study of plasma stability in sheared magnetic fields

In this review paper the basic equations for the study of the stability of inhomogeneous plasma in sheared magnetic fields are derived and examined for normal mode and wave-packet perturbations. Special emphasis is placed on the detailed mathematical formalisms usually employed in the analysis of such problems, and numerous known examples are used as applications.
