The 16th European Conference on Controlled Fusion and Plasma Physics was held at the Fondazione Cini, on the island of S. Giorgio Maggiore in Venice, 13–17 March 1989, on behalf of the Plasma Physics Division of the European Physical Society. Almost 600 scientists attended the meeting; 17 invited papers, 26 oral contributions and more than 400 poster contributions were presented.
