The first IAEA Technical Committee Meeting on Physics and Diagnostics of Fusion Produced Alpha Particles was hosted by the Kiev Institute for Nuclear Research (INR, Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR). The programme and organizing committee consisted of the following members: F. Engelmann (ITER, Garching), Ya.I. Kolesnichenko (Chairman, INR, Kiev), D.J. Sigmar (Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge), K. Tani (Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute) and H. Wilhelmsson (Chalmers University of Technology, Goteborg). The meeting was attended by more than 50 participants from nine countries; more than 40 papers were presented. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss alpha particle physics issues of magnetically confined fusion plasmas, to sum up the present theoretical understanding of alpha particle physics and the planned experiments with D-T plasma operation, and to point out the most important alpha particle problems which should be solved in view of the projection to fusion reactors.
第1回IAEA専門家会合「核融合生成アルファ粒子の物理と計測」は、ウクライナSSR科学アカデミー核研究所（INR）が主催した。プログラム委員会および組織委員会は、以下のメンバーで構成された：F. Engelmann（ITER、ガルヒング）、Ya.I. Kolesnichenko（委員長、INR、キエフ）、D.J. Sigmar（マサチューセッツ工科大学、ケンブリッジ）、K. Tani（日本原子力研究所）、H. Wilhelmsson（チャルマース工科大学、ヨーテボリ）。本会合には9か国から50名以上の参加者が集まり、40件以上の論文が発表された。会合の目的は、磁場閉じ込め核融合プラズマにおけるアルファ粒子物理の諸問題を議論し、アルファ粒子物理の現状における理論的理解を総括し、D-Tプラズマ運転における計画中の実験を検討し、さらに核融合炉を見据えて解決すべき最も重要なアルファ粒子問題を指摘することであった。
