Detailed computational analysis of q-profile evolution in Tokamak discharges exhibiting cyclic internal disruptions shows the existence of an unstable internal region. Agreement with experimental sawtooth data is obtained when disruptions are assumed to be triggered by the onset of a localized q=1 instability. q profiles are extremely flat for 0<r<rs and stay almost fixed.
