AbstractThe potential decay heat stored in a fusion reactor after a year of normal operation, is theoretically enough to cause, at least, a partial meltdown of the reactor structure. A narrow sector of ITER fusion reactor has been modelled in conditions similar after a total LOCA (Loss of Coolant Accident). The purpose was to estimate the temperature histories of the various components in a period up to 10 days after the accidental shutdown. It was verified that no melting at the first wall or the blanket is to be expected during the first 10 days after the accident.
