Parametric instability of a large-amplitude circularly-polarized electromagnetic wave

The authors consider the propagation of small-amplitude waves in the presence of a circularly-polarized electromagnetic pump wave. Special attention is focused on the effect of additional ion species on the dispersion relation. They demonstrate that the appearance of a new acoustic mode, due to the presence of a small amount of impurity ions, can cause an instability in a Tokamak plasma.
