An analysis of the mode conversion between a fast Alfven wave with k/sub ///=0 and a slow ion-Bernstein wave, in a plasma with a fast-ion component, is undertaken. The fast-ion distribution function is found by solving a Fokker-Planck equation, and the appropriate corrections to the dielectric tensor are calculated. It is found that the transmission coefficient of the fast Alfven wave is decreased in a plasma with a fast-ion component.
