Resistive internal kink modes are the most difficult resistive instabilities to stabilize in tokamaks. Generally, the mode is unstable if q < 1. However, with special q-profiles, it is possible to stabilize resistive internal kink modes in tokamaks with non-circular cross-section. This result holds for large aspect ratio. Previously, similar stabilization was found for small aspect ratio circular cross-section tokamaks. The stabilizing effects of non-circular cross-section and small aspect ratio are expected to be additive. The conformal co-ordinates used in the numerical study are discussed.
