Propagating, spatio-temporal electric fields are used to synchronize weak drift wave turbulence. It is found that those fluctuations which are spatio-temporally resonant with the driver signal are enhanced by application of the driver signal, while non-resonant fluctuations are suppressed. In a second step the effect of synchronization on the fluctuation induced transport is investigated for synchronization of different mode numbers. A comparison with unperturbed drift wave dynamics and related transport is used to characterize the observed transport changes. It is shown by means of spectrally and radially resolved transport measurements that transport is determined by the radial mode structure of the driven and the suppressed drift modes. The larger the scale of the mode is and the closer it is towards the centre of the plasma column, the more it contributes to the overall transport, i.e. an overall transport reduction can only be achieved if such modes are suppressed.
