A compact dispersion relation is derived for the parametric instabilities ofelectromagnetic waves scattered off an ion acoustic surface wave whosefrequencies are much smaller than the ion plasma frequency. The threshold forstimulated scattering is obtained and the wavelength regions over which thestimulated scattering is excited are determined. The present investigationshould be useful in studying the nonlinear instabilities insurface-wave-sustained plasmas.
