T-10 experimental data showing the relation between the core and edge plasma parameters are reviewed. A selection of shots with fixed average density, plasma current and toroidal field, but different input ECRH power, wall conditions etc., have shown that the edge plasma density is the most changeable parameter, changing by an order of magnitude, whereas the edge electron temperature does not vary by more than a factor of two. The results are inconsistent with theoretical considerations, which impose a rigorous relation between the edge and core densities. An investigation of the initial phase of ECRH has shown the edge parameters to be defined mainly by plasma core heating, but not the direct interaction of EC waves with the wall surface.
