Stability analysis of tokamaks based on a fully kinetic, electromagnetic integral equation code indicates the existence of strong instability in the regime k⊥≃ωpe/c (inverse electron skin depth). The mode is driven by toroidicity and magnetic shear, and exhibits favourable isotope effect.
