Short forms 'hybrid current' and 'hybrid current drive' are counted under lower hybrid current drive.
(a) Schematic of the whole PAM launcher, which consists of the multijunction at the front, the straight waveguides in the middle, and the transitional waveguides at the rear. (b) Layout of the water-cooling channels behind the passive waveguides. The materials of the active and passive waveguides are indicated. (c) Front view of the 2.45 GHz PAM installed in EAST tokamak. The red rectangle represents a PAM module fed by one klystron, which is composed of two active (dimension 23 mm × 109.2 mm) and two passive (dimension 20 mm × 109.2 mm) waveguides. The waveguides array is made of 20 modules with an arrangement of 5 rows × 4 columns. The guard limiters at both sides are also actively cooled with tungsten material. One Langmuir probe is equipped at the top for electron density and temperature measurements.
Schematic diagram of a PAM launcher viewing at the top. Δ = bA + bP + s is the geometrical toroidal periodicity of the waveguides, bA and bP the active and passive waveguide width, s the width of the septum, LP the depth of a passive waveguide. The locations of cooling pipes behind the passive waveguides are also indicated.
Ray trajectories in the poloidal plane calculated with the GENRAY code, including propagation in the SOL region for #81481 with higher Te0 (a) and for #81490 with lower Te0 (b). The color bar denotes the normalized ray power to the initial power. The thick red curve indicates the last closed flux surface, and the four black asterisks at the low field side represent the poloidal launching locations. The power ratio of the collisional damping to the total power is indicated for both discharges.
